CHICAGO. Oct. 26 (UP) – Mrs. Helen Tetrault Collins, 31, has been fined $5400 – at the rate of $100 a day – for contempt of court in taking her daughter from Chicago to Roswell, N. M.
Circuit Court Judge Charges S. Dougherty imposed the fine yesterday and also awarded Mrs. Collins’ former husband, Elwyn Tetrault, 33, a $3000 judgment for expenses he has incurred in the case.
Mr. Collins was awarded custody of their daughter, Muriel, 5, when she divorced Tetrault in 1950.
Subsequently she married Air Force Capt. Kriebel Collins and moved to Roswell, where he is stationed, taking Muriel with her.
Tetrault brought Muriel back to Chicago last August. While he was seeking custody of her, Sep. 2, on the ground that she had been taken illegally from the state, Mrs. Collins and her present husband picked the child up at Tetrault’s home and took her back to New Mexico.
Judge Dougherty found Mrs. Collins in contempt for not getting permission to take the girl away.
